Men with 120cm waists, and women with 100cm waists had twice the risk of premature death than those with waists of 80cm and 65cm respectively. These points were made in a study of over 350,000 Europeans published recently in the Journal of New England Medicine, and led by Professor Elio Riboli of Imperial College, London.
Excess weight around the stomach is more harmful than fat on legs and thighs. Fat around the middle is more likely to secrete toxins that develop chronic diseases such as cancer and heart disease than fat deposits elsewhere.
