We've looked around - as have our customers - and we all believe this is the heaviest, strongest, most stable (big feet), best-looking rack available at anything under twice the price. It's also one of the biggest US-name brands. (Also see the Powertec Half Rack if you're short of space) The original, US-designed Power Rack. We used to sell a copy - it did quite well. Now we have the original for the same price, and it's a lot heavier and stronger, and offers a wide array of options to enable you to build a full-strength home gym. It's simple, heavy-duty and allows you to perform all the great free weight training movements with complete safety. Frankly, we're certain it's the best value on the market by far, when you add up the important things: strength, weight, stability (size of base), looks, brand strength. (Assuming you think those things are important) It's strong: - Power Rack and Spotter Bars will take loads of 450kgs
- Chin Up Bars and Dip Handles, 180kgs
- It has doubled-up corner plates all round, and thick high tensile nuts and bolts which give it very important rigidity.
It's super-stable: Its feet seem to cover more area than others, making it super stable. (It's 100kg unloaded) It's big It's big enough for a 6' 4" user (1.92m) user to use the optional cable tower (Lat Tower) on the high pulley - say, with a lat pull-down - which many others don't comfortably permit. What recent (October, November 2011 comments) customers say: JC Ngaio, Wellington, Powertec Power Rack Just a quick note: I assembled it last night - went together very easily, although my idiot flatmate kept putting bolts in without washers haha. I left it overnight with an olympic bar and a couple of 25s on it before tightening everything up this morning, as you recommended. It's awesome - everything feels very "industrial strength" and it's certainly heavy and stable. There was no movement at all when I used the chin up bar and the whole assembly feels solid as. Commercial Gym, Hawkes Bay (Wanted to try a Powertec Power Rack for strength) When we called a week later they'd bolted it to the floor and told us: "Great! Go away!" Chetan Jethwa (75kg Ironmaster Quick Lock Dumbbells, Super Bench, Powertec Power Rack)(6 ft 5 in) The rack is awesome! Strong and sturdy. I'm getting changes fast on the Quick-Lock Dumbbells and even at 60kg they're very compact. Bench is so strong and easily fits my height. Graeme G, Auckland (Powertec Power Rack) It is simply the best rack in the home class and to be honest aside from my UK powerlifting gym, better than anything else I have used in commercial gyms. Ben, Wellington (Power Rack, Ironmaster Super Bench, plates, options) The Powertec Rack is a thing of beauty. It's solid, tall and well built unit. It has a high weight rating and it shows. It's much better than anything else I saw in the shops or online. Value for money, this wins hands-down. Was originally unsure of the Ironmaster bench due to it's unconventional design but I'm loving it. It's incredibly solid, the tilt adjust is easy to use and the bench is long and comfortable. Best bench I've used in years. Back to the rack.... (Note: the Power Rack offered is as shown in the second picture - the black unit. Bench, bar and options are extra; plate packages can be chosen by clicking on the Price Options bar at top) The optional Lat Tower Option (plate-loaded) - with 180kg capacity for high and low-cable activity (pull-downs, rows, curls) and the Powertec Utility Bench, if added, with its own options, provide for additonal exercises. The Powertec Power Rack has adjustable spotter bars that can be moved into different positions for different exercises. With a bench press you set them just below your chest line in your pressing position; giving a full range of motion, hitting the chest, but if you can’t make that last rep you just simply rest the bar onto the spotter bars. Holes for the spotter bars on the power rack are only 4cm apart so they can be adjusted to accommodate just about any shape and size. Putting them just below your low squat point, you can literally squat till you drop! And these are beefy spotter bars; not the spindly things often seen elsewhere. Easier to move too. The Power Rack comes standard with chin up bars and adjustable dip handles. The dip handles are angled - great for taking the strain off the shoulders and allowing you to lean forward and blast the chest muscles. (The bottom picture at right shows the Lat Tower and Bench options which are extra cost) Colour in stock is presently black. Specifications: Length:130cm Width: 125cm Height: 210cm Weight: 101kgs. Check a competitor rack's weight: this often reflects their skinny bits, and lack of stability. Weight is important if you're serious about a rack. Plates Pricing See the Click for Price Options (near top of page) to see the respective prices of No Plates, 75kg Plates, and 115Kg Plates options. Copies Several copies have arrived in NZ in the short time Powertec has been represented here.
They're typically lighter weight, or offer lesser specs in terms of weight they can support; they may not have as big a base area (stability is important); sometimes have weak safety bars, don't offer the range of add-ons and options, and most often carry a brand name that may be well-known only in a small part of China. (Test their brand in Google) Some of them claim to have a cable tower attachment, but what they offer doesn't have the lugs that hold your knees in place when using it. You need these if you're serious about applying any downward force. Makes you wonder if the makers actually understand what needs to happen. |
