One of the main benefits of exercising with a Gym Ball as opposed to exercising directly on a hard flat surface is that the body responds to the instability of the ball to remain balanced, engaging many more muscles to do so.  Those muscles become stronger over time to keep balance.  Most frequently, the core body muscles — the stomach muscles and back muscles — are the focus of exercise ball fitness programs.

Choosing the Correct Ball Size

Please read all the information carefully before selecting a ball.  A few minutes spent reading now might save you the time and money of having to return a wrong-sized ball later...and pay to have another shipped!

If you're using your Gym Ball for exercise, it should be firmly inflated, so that when pressed with one finger, a slight dent is created, approximately 2 inches (5cm) across. When seated on the ball, your thigh should be parallel or slightly above parallel to the ground.  For those with back pain, a slightly larger ball is often better, so the thigh is above parallel.

Less than 5'9" (172m)     -   55cm

 5'9" - 6'2" (1.75m-1.88m) - 65 cm

 Above 6'3" (1.90m)          - 75 cm

If your body size is larger than normal for your height then you'll probably find it more comfortable to use a ball one size larger than shown in the above chart

When using the Gym Ball as a chair, employ a larger ball than you use for exercise, but only inflated to the correct size described above. This will produce a softer, more comfortable chair. A general rule of thumb is to use a ball one size larger than shown in the above chart.

All balls are anti burst with a recommended weight limit of 275lb (125kg) and the price includes a wall chart of exercises and pump to blow it up with.
